Abstract

The analytical expression for the electron density induced by a hyperbolic secant pulse is deduced,and an explicit expression for the threshold pulse width in terms of the fluence density is derived.By means of these expressions,damage threshold of the fused silica irradiated by 1053nm femtosecond pulses is calculated which is in agreement with those reported by others.
