Spectroscopic characterization of the Yb:ZnWO4 laser crystal

Abstract
The Yb:ZnWO4 crystal is grown with Czochralski method.The polarized absorption spectra and polarized emission spectra are observed.The absorption cross section is 3.0×10-20cm2,fluorescence life time is 1.15ms and emission cross section is 2.0×10-20cm2.The Stark energy levels of Yb3+ in ZnWO4 crystal are analyzed.As a result of strong absorption at 972nm and broad fluorescence band from 914nm to 1055nm,Yb:ZnWO4 can be used as a new type of tunable laser crystal pumped by LD.
