Microstructure of laser clad Ti+TiC powders on Ti-6Al-4V alloy substrate

  • Laser cladding experiment of Ti+33%TiC was carried out on Ti-6Al-4V alloy substrate,then the microstructure of the clad layer was analyzed with SEM and its strengthening mechanism was discussed.Microstructure analyses show that the clad coating can be divided into three zones along the depth direction:clad,binding and heat-affected zones.TiC in the clad zone exists in the form of fine dendrites,Ti matrix filling among TiC dendrites play a role of connecting the TiC and transferring load,so the clad coating has been strengthened obviously.
