Non-paraxial Hermite-Gaussian-beams and their higher-order corrections

  • Received Date: 2001-12-27

  • The propagation of Hermite Gaussian beams beyond the paraxial approximation is studied through the series expansion. The validity of the expansion formula is illustrated with numerical examples. It is shown that the formula becomes divergent,if the beam width is comparable with the wavelength. The corresponding physical analysis is also made.

Abstract: The propagation of Hermite Gaussian beams beyond the paraxial approximation is studied through the series expansion. The validity of the expansion formula is illustrated with numerical examples. It is shown that the formula becomes divergent,if the beam width is comparable with the wavelength. The corresponding physical analysis is also made.
