Abstract: As the error probability is inherently high in optical storage, proper error correction coding methods must be adopted to ensure the validity of recorded data Reed-Solomon(RS) code is one of such codes that meet the requirements. In this paper, two different algorithms which implement RS code,Berlekamp-Massey(BM) algorithm and Peterson-Gorentstein-Zierler(PGZ) algorithm are analyzed and compared under specific application conditions with respect to different error occurrence case. And finally PGZ algorithm is implemented with VHDL and the simulation result shows it is practical to be implemented in FPGA.
