Abstract
Using absorption method,we measured the ground state copper atom density in a magnetically confined discharge, and found that the density of the atom was the degree of 1014cm-3 ,and was suited to copper vapor laser action.Comparing with conventional copper vapor lasers, the discharge gas temperature was quite lower. So the results show the feasibility of applying the magnetically confined discharge in copper vapor lasers.
