Investigations of laser alloying with chromium and molybdenum on surface of carbon steel and thermal stability of the alloyed layer

  • Received Date: 1989-11-06
  • The layer alloyed with chromium and molybdenum on surface of carbon steel was obtained by using high power CO2 laser in this study. Experimental results show that the distributions of microhardness and compositions in the alloyed layer are uniform. The microhardness of alloyed layer is increased to 2 or 3 times compared with that of carbon steel. Meanwhile the thermal stability of the alloyed layer is obviously higher than that of carbon steel. In addition, the reason for improving these properties has been discussed.

Abstract: The layer alloyed with chromium and molybdenum on surface of carbon steel was obtained by using high power CO2 laser in this study. The microhardness of alloyed layer is increased to 2 or 3 times compared with that of carbon steel. Meanwhile the thermal stability of the alloyed layer is obviously higher than that of carbon steel. In addition, the reason for improving these properties has been discussed.
