Abstract: According to a model of the global average refractive index distribution,the ray bending.the atmospheric refractive angle,and the altitude error are calculated for various elevation and altitude.In addition, the same as calculations are performed using different refactive index distributions for five typical climate regions.Comparisons between them show that the global average distribution,in general, can be used in the middle-accuracy cases.However,it is necessary knowing about a insitu refractive index distribution for the case that a higher accuracy in required.
