A compact cascaded ultrashort cavity dye laser oscillator-amplifier
Yang Sheng-li
1995, 19(4): 201-203.
Abstract:
It is reported that a small oscillator-amplifier which consists of two cas-caded ultrashort cavity dye laser(SCDL)and a dye laser amplifier. The pumping source is an atmaspere pressure N2 laser(λ=337.1nm).The size of the system is less 20cm×15cm,compared with that described in[1],for a new optical geometry is employed. The beam diffusion loss of the N2 laser, used as the pumping source,is cut down greatly, therefore the system efficiency is raised obviously. The second SCDL cavity is constructed by using a new structure. So thermal unstability of the cavity and output features of the SCDL can be reduced.
Study on the gain-switching characteristics of Ti:sapphire lasers
Yang Yang, Liu Hong-fa, Zhang Guo-wei
1995, 19(4): 204-208.
Abstract:
The temporal characteristics of a gain-switched Ti:sapphire laser pumped by a frequency-doubled Q-switched Nd:YAG laser have studied experimentally at the range of the pump level(pump energy/threshold energy)from 2.1 to 3.8,the cavity length from 20cm to 60cm.According to the theoretical model of the temporal characteristics for the gain-switching laser oscillator, the buildup time and pulse-width of the oscillating mode depend on the pump level and the cavity length, inversely as the cavity loss, and also is not dependent on the pump pulse-width and the waveshape. The experimental result coincides well with the theoretical analysis. The laser oscillator with a short cavity length L=20cm pumped by a 10 ns pulse-width Q-switched laser outputs a 4ns shorter laser pulse.

Abstract:
A theoretical model of Er3+/Yb3+ co-doped fibre amplifier, based on the one of Er3+-doped fibre amplifier,as presented in this paper,by analysing some of the references concerned. The performances of the signal, the pump, and the amplified spontaneous emission(ASE)in the Er3+/Yb3+ co-doped fibre can be simulated with this model. Some of results from this model are significant and interesting.
PMT gain control in underwater laser object detection system
Lu Yi-min, Zhang Feng, Chen Wen-ge
1995, 19(4): 222-226.
Abstract:
Based on the disscusing of laser propagation properties in sea, this paper points out that the recieved energy consists of sea-water backscatter and object reflection, and the later is quite weak, and has a large dynamic range of 105.So,it is necessary to have a gain control system of photomultiplier tube (PMT)to compensate the signal variation. This paper introduces a practical photo-multiplier gain control(PMGC)system, the system has beter dynamic range of 104 and has been used in a un-derwater object laser detection system.
